All about Ile Aux Cocos
Ile aux Cocos is located at 4 km to the west of Rodrigues Island. White beaches, blue water, filao trees, coconut palms, and the huge, empty expanse of the sea make Ile aux Cocos a beautiful place to visit. Shallow water surrounds Cocos Island in a lagoon where corals and boulders can occasionally be seen above the surface.
One of Rodrigues' top tourist attractions is this little island that rises from the lagoon and is a stunning natural reserve. The island has a long fine sandy beach and is covered with coconut and casuarina trees. Around three metres in the air, thousands of bird’s flutters. We may enjoy seeing the white gulls, gannets, frigate birds, "yéyés," and "macoa" that have taken refuge on the small island. Some of the birds are unique in the world.
To visit Ile Aux Cocos, it is required to get the authorisation of Discovery Rodrigues Co. Ltd. The departure usually takes place at Pointe du Diable everyday using a chartered boat which also provides lunch for the day. Contact of the local boat operators are easily accessible at the Rodrigues Tourism Office.
