All about Caverne Patate
Accessibility: 4 times a day: 9 am, 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm.
The island’s most well-known speleological site is Caverne Patate. Caverne Patate is the most visited cave on the island and one of the must-see locations. It is situated on a coral plain in the southwest of Rodrigues Island.
This is a unique experience in a tunnel of more than 1000 metres long which is naturally decorated with stalagmites and stalagmites. You will find beautiful rock sculptures with the light of an electric torch. The perception and interpretation of what the rock sculptures represent differs from one person to the other person; you may identify from a fish to a witch structure in there. The greatest wonders, however, are the carved details and colours of the vault. To allow guests easy access to the cave, a stone stairway with complex designs has been built up. Given that the cave is typically approximately 20 metres tall, it has a more pleasant entrance than other caves. As for the natural site, it is accessible 4 times a day: 9 am, 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm. The visit of the cave is usually done in small groups or individually with your guide who will answer all your questions.
Caverne Patate is managed by the Discovery Rodrigues Co. Ltd and the guided tours are done by the guides present on spot.
